My name is Minerva, and I'm a 23-year-old law student who spends her lunch breaks in Philadelphia trying to eat her feelings as creatively as possible.

Any of you who follows Adam Richmond on the Travel Channel might be aware of his recent tour in search of the best sandwich in America. He might have had to tour the whole country to find the winner, but we Philadelphians only have to walk a few blocks to DiNic’s at Reading Terminal Market.
Last night, DiNic’s roast pork sandwich was crowned the best sandwich America has to offer, beating out finalists from Detroit, New Orleans, Savannah, Chicago, and more. So what’s in this thing? Thinly-sliced pork, broccoli rabe, a little gravy, and extra-sharp provolone on a sesame seed roll.
I’m sure it’s amazing, but something tells me it’ll be a looooong time before the lines there will be short enough for me to actually get to try it. Something tells me, though, it’s worth the wait.
On a secondary but awesome note, another Philly establishment was in the running: John’s Roast Pork for their (shocker) Roast Pork Cheesesteak. It might not have won, but I’m sure it’s delicious, and it’s clear that Philly is really up and coming in this arena, just like Saveur Magazine predicted.
